First, I wanted to wish each of you a very Happy New Year! I hope that each of you had a beautiful holiday season, and wish you a wonderful 2018!
Just before Christmas, as I was sorting through various packages arriving at the front door (I admittedly do most, if not all, of my Christmas gift shopping online), I was beyond excited to see that my Winter 2017 Rachel Zoe Box of Style had arrived. (Refer to my earlier blog entry for Box of Style details if you are not familiar!) As usual, the packaging of the box is gorgeous, featuring the ever-chic color combo of black and gold (one of my all-time faves), and like other boxes includes a small magazine describing Ms. Zoe’s inspiration behind the box and items. The Winter 2017 box is inspired by “the most glamorous season of the year”, and is filled with “carefully selected luxurious accessories to make every outfit, day or night, that much chicer.” Being a self-proclaimed fashion accessory junkie, I knew I was going to LOVE everything even before I tore into the gorgeous gold tissue paper!
And…surprise, surprise, Ms. Zoe and her awesome team did not disappoint!!!
The first item, appropriately named “The Day to Night” by the Zoe Team, is the Rachel Zoe for Box of Style Box Clutch. I am SUPER excited about the clutch, as despite my endless love for all things handbags, and despite considering MANY, I have never bought a minaudière! (While many designers offer their own, and I love the sleek, art deco look of them, I have always hesitated due to the small size and fear of inability to pack my night out essentials – phone (sorry not sorry!), card case, and lipstick and gloss.) Ms. Zoe’s version measures approximately 4 x 7 inches with depth of 2 inches, and easily fit my iPhone 7 Plus (with the case on), card case, lipstick and gloss, and even a rollerball! The box bag can be worn as a clutch or over the shoulder as a removable chain strap is included, and features a warm-gold metal frame and snap closure. Box of Style subscribers were able to select their preferred color, black or pearl white…while both colors are clearly super versatile, I chose pearl white because I admittedly have no shortage of black evening bags. (I included a photo of the black version below for reference.)
I of course had to use the box ASAP, and my review after its virgin evening out…OBSESSED!
The next item, which I am completely jazzed about as Florida is currently experiencing our first legitimate cold front of the season (and I mean COLD!), is the Unreal Fur Faux Fur Stole, or “The Unreal Upgrade” per Ms. Zoe. (I am sorry, I have to say it again…I LOVE HER ha ha!) Full disclaimer, I am a lover of all things faux fur, and look forward to brisk Florida weather to wear it…including faux fur jackets, vests, and scarves. That being said, this is actually a perfect addition to my cold weather closet, as I find it to be more versatile, in terms of how to style, than my other go-to scarves. Like most others, the stole looks fab kept open (think thrown over your collar or coat), but is also easily worn looped in order to provide more warmth. (My favorite faux fur scarf (or maybe it will be my “old” favorite now!), is a beautiful navy and feels super luxurious, but it is “larger” or “bulkier” and truly looks best worn open or “unlooped” - I included of both stoles together for comparison purposes.) And, this stole absolutely fits into my faux fur styling theory…SO versatile, as items can be worn with a super formal cocktail dress OR with oversized cozy sweaters, and look equally stylish and fashionable with both. If you have always hesitated to rock faux fur, for what it is worth I say absolutely go for it with both your glam and casual looks!
Along the same lines of versatile accessories, in terms of day to night / glam to casual wear, the next item I opened are the House of Harlow 1960 Mesa Door Knocker Earrings, dubbed “The Total Knockout” by Rachel. If you are not familiar, House of Harlow 1960 is a clothing, jewelry, and accessories line designed and curated by Nicole Richie. Originally launched as a jewelry line in 2007 and later expanding to include ready-to-wear and other accessories, the label is now available via its own site as well as several quintessential fashion retailers, including Nordstrom, Shopbop, REVOLVE, and others. (As a quick FYI for any fellow REVOLVE shoppers, House of Harlow launched an exclusive collection with REVOLVE in 2016, and it.is.FABULOUS!) If you are not familiar with the House of Harlow 1960, I just have to recommend taking a quick look when you have a moment!
Getting back to the matter at hand, the Mesa Door Knocker Earrings are the Zoe Report’s version of the ultimate pair of dangle/drop earrings, designed to be able to easily work into any look for that “extra dose” of sparkle. As admitted above (and elsewhere in this blog), I am an accessory junkie, and sparkly, fun costume jewelry just might be my favorite accessory category (next to handbags…and sunglasses…OK, never mind…ha ha!). The earrings are lined with small rhinestones and an elegant gold-plated border, and are completely on trend with the popular geometric jewelry trend that has been hot for several seasons. I absolutely LOVE them, and will no doubt wear them with both casual and dressy looks. (Pairing “dressy”, or sparkly costume jewelry with uber casual outfits, think classic white t-shirt and denim, is one of my FAVORITE looks.) And, as you are likely wondering, the earrings are actually not overly heavy and completely wearable! (Aside, for those earrings in your jewelry box that you absolutely love but rarely wear due to the weight, check out the Kendra Scott Lobe Wonder Earring Support Patches…they are amazing and have been a complete life saver, not to mention completely affordable - $10 for a box of sixty patches!)
The next item is the TARTE Sex Kitten Liquid Liner, or, according to the always stylish team at Rachel Zoe – “The Fine Line”. While I am a long-time fan of TARTE, the only TARTE products I have are lipstick and highlighter, so this product is new to me. Personally, I am always a bit hesitant to try new liquid liners, with my fears being a dull tip (making it difficult to apply or resulting in either skipping or drag) or products that take too long to dry. After playing with it and attempting a few different looks, I can verify TARTE’s claim that the product really is “goofproof” (and that is coming from a true makeup amateur). The applicator is a super skinny felt tip, making it easy to ensure you are applying in a steady stream, and the liner really is quick-dry! I know that some of us prefer waterproof liner, and some of us do not, so it is important to know that the Sex Kitten Liquid Liner is definitely waterproof; however, I was able to remove it easily with a basic cleansing milk. So, my initial impression is super favorable! (In looking quickly at online reviews at both Sephora and ULTA, it seems to be a favorite among many!)
Next, I unwrapped OSEA Essential Hydrating Oil, or, “The Miracle Worker”, which is a botanical oil designed to provide hydration to the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles (Count Me In – ha ha!). (OSEA Malibu (Ocean. Sun. Earth. Atmosphere.) is a luxury natural skincare line dedicated to using only organic materials free of toxic, synthetic ingredients.) The Essential Hydrating Oil, a blend of lavender, rosewood, and geranium essential oils, is designed for morning and evening use on the face and neck. Given the brutal winter conditions many are experiencing right now (and that includes Florida, kind of…), most of us could likely afford a boost of hydration, so the timing of this product is perfect. This product is new to me, so I am only a week into use, but so far I am pleased – not heavy at all, leaves skin super soft, and smells AMAZING.
As I unwrapped the next item expecting to find a cool book about style, or perhaps motivation for 2018 (either of which would have been awesome!), I found something even better…The Agenda by Sugar Paper. OMG! While I embrace all things digital and will not deny that I am, um, never without my cell phone, or Kindle (the new Paperwhite Kindle is fabulous, btw!) and sometimes even iPad, I am still an old school handwritten “list maker” and even use a hard copy daily planner instead of my phone calendar! “The Pencil-It-In” agenda is of course super chic in black and gold (we addressed my black and gold obsession earlier), and includes weekly and monthly layouts, a section to track birthdays and thank you notes, note pages, and a catch-all pocket. It is a perfectly portable size (approximately 7.25 x 8 inches), which is a huge plus given most of us are always on the go. And, the agenda features a super unique detail – each monthly tab includes a motivating quote from women Rachel admires, including Eleanor Roosevelt, Diane von Furstenberg, Meryl Streep, and others. As you can see, five stars from me for Sugar Paper’s The Agenda…I actually transferred all information from the 2018 agenda I purchased in early November (and I love that one too)!
(BTW, because I was not familiar with Sugar Paper and completely love stationary, I quickly checked out the brand’s website…and their products are beautiful! The brand was launched in 2003 by close friends and graphic designers Chelsea Shukov and Jamie Grobecker, and since then has been featured in VOGUE, InStyle, Vanity Fair and other major publications, as well as gaining a celebrity following. At first glance, their products are simple yet incredibly elegant and distinctive. Not sure where I have been – perhaps just married to my go-to stationary lines – but I have recommend checking out Sugar Paper if you are not already familiar with it…perfectly giftable to yourself or others!)
OK, so, now I am wondering to myself – Did I like the Fall or Winter Box of Style box better? Well, despite my love for my Fall items (all of which are in my various rotations!), I think Winter 2017 is pulling ahead! That being said, does anyone know when the Spring 2017 Rachel Zoe Box of Style will be arriving?
As always, thank you for being here!
